There are many known and unknown facts about marketing, some of which are more fun than others! Some facts may seem more important than others, but having a well-rounded knowledge of marketing facts is beneficial. At Inner Spark, we know the ins and outs of marketing trends and facts, educating businesses on what they need to know to be successful. Continue on to learn about these 8 fun facts about marketing that might just help your marketing strategy.

1. ¾ of adults use social media.

Three-fourths of adults with internet access have at least one social media account. Half of those adults have two accounts. It is a common misconception that older generations don’t use social media. This statistic shows that a social media campaign is effective for most age groups, not just young adults and teens.

2. Facebook is the most commonly used social media platform.

Younger generations are starting to use Facebook less and less, but because more of the older generations still use Facebook, it remains the most widely used platform. Over 50% of all American adults use Facebook, this includes all adults, not just adults with social media accounts. Therefore the audience is a lot larger on Facebook compared to other social media platforms like Instagram or Snapchat. An older audience is less likely to use Snapchat, making Facebook the more effective option when targeting older adults.

3. YouTube has the most engaged audience.

YouTube drives a lot more traffic than any other social media platform. With that being said, most people do not even realize it is a social media platform. They have a larger engaged audience because when people visit YouTube they tend to stay on that platform longer than other social media platforms because they are watching long videos that most other social media platforms do not offer. There are many ways to increase social media engagement on other social platforms to get the same great results seen on YouTube.

4. Only 26% of companies use social media.

This percentage is smaller than many would imagine. While there are clear advantages to using social media marketing for your business, some companies choose not to take advantage of it. Utilizing social media can put your company about 75% ahead of its competitors. To gain a competitive edge you should consider creating a social media account for your company if you do not already have one. Updating the account regularly and consistently will help boost your marketing.

5. Increasing bacon sales.

Here we have some unique marketing campaigns. Bacon and eggs were originally never considered a breakfast food until there was a need for an increase in bacon sales. Sigmund Freud's nephew was asked to create a marketing plan to increase bacon sales. Therefore, you can date bacon and eggs all the way back to Sigmund Freud.

6. Twitter or Twttr?

Before Twitter launched in 2006, the founders rebranded a few months before the initial launch. The name was initially supposed to be Twttr, and the colors were green instead of blue.

7. Celebrities' Twitter following.

Some celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga have more Twitter followers than the populations of many countries such as Canada, Turkey, Germany, South Africa, and Egypt.

8. On average, buyers consult about 11 reviews before purchasing.

It is rare for someone to view your website and purchase your product immediately. The more likely they are to visit and research the product, the more likely they are to purchase it. Most consumers will purchase a product after seeing an advertisement eight times. Reviews allow people to see how others enjoyed the product after purchasing it.
